Before the classic full-body lean was made popular by Yuen Lui in the 1980s, there was its predecessor: The Warm Shoulder. A product of the 1970s “creative photography” movement, The Warm Shoulder fell out of favor when the photographer Lloyd Wilhelm Burns III was sued by the subject of this photo for the neck surgery required to free her from this pose. A true evangelist for the genre, note that Burns’ signature is also leaning.
